A Day out in Constanta, Romania

We are very fortunate to live really close to the seaside and every now and then – more often in the summer – we drive there for a day out or more. This is what we’ve done the second day of Easter. It was a great day – very relaxed and filled with activities.

The sun was up so we all walked along side the beach. The girls loved watching the waves splashing on the rocks and the seagulls flying and  hunting for fishes. We even went down below at the beach and throw little sea shells into the water – this was Anastasia’s favourite activity. It was hard to make her leave though…but I promised her that we will definitely come back and play again.

That building you can see is Constanta Casino – a very old building that unfortunately is degrading by day as it is not very well looked after. I wish it was but the money situation and the political issues stop that. It is impressive don’t you think?

Considered a symbol of the city, it was built in Art Nouveau style according to the plans of Daniel Renard and inaugurated in August 1910. The last major repairs took place in 1986-1988, and the building is currently closed. It is listed as a historic monument by Romania’s Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs. (source – Wikipedia)

If you ever visit Constanta though please do go to see it. You will be impressed by grandeur.

Right across from the Casino you will find the Aquarium. Although is not as impressive as the one from London it is an interesting stop for the kids and a break from the sunshine. Plus if you also visit the Dolphinarium it will be great to see this one. Kids under 7 can go in free and for adults the entrant is only 10 RON which is only about £1.80.

After we finished visiting the aquarium we continued our walk along side the seashore admiring the statues. The most impressive is the statue of Queen Carmen Sylva. I didn’t manage to take a picture with it but if you google you will most definitely find a picture with it.

The adventure of the day though was our sail on the sea. We were a tiny bit scared but it was really fun in the end. I am sure you spotted some of the pictures and the video I made on Facebook.

The trip took around 45 minutes and it only costed 5 Ron for children and 10 Ron for adults(although as a special offer for this trip we didn’t have to pay for the kids). Otherwise you can pay for a family of four you can pay about £5.

We ended the day with a walk on the beach like i promised my youngest only that this time around we went to a different side of the Constanta beach side where people actually go to lounge in the summer.

It was a bit too much sea weed though in the water but the girls didn’t mind it. It was drag to drag them out from the beach even.

It was a great day out and there are definitely lots of things to do in Constanta even when it’s not beach season. So if you wonder if you need to visit or not Romania I think I given you enough reasons to do so.
