Watermelon Drink

Watermelon lemonade

I love watermelon. Is one of my favourite fruits – every time I eat watermelon I remember about my childhood happy times…

How all the family use to gather in the garden in the hot summer evening and just ate watermelon without even cutting it(us kids). I don’t have a picture but if you would like to know what I mean have a look at the one below. It really resembles how I used to it as a kid.

My youngest is just like me. She loves watermelon so much that she would easily eat it at breakfast, lunch and dinner. My eldest,Kara, not so much but she enjoys things made out of watermelon – mostly the watermelon lollies.

But as I made them a lantern out of one small watermelon one afternoon thought it will be good to try and prepare for my girls a watermelon drink. And let me tell you what…they both loved it!

Recipe type: Drink
Serves: 1 jug
Ingredients
  • watermelon
  • 1-2 lemon
  • fresh basil
  • ice
Instructions
  1. Cut/slice the watermelon and de-seed it. Using a hand mixer juice the watermelon in batches. Strain the juice through a sieve(this way the left out seeds will remain in the sieve).
  2. Add the watermelon juice in a jug.
  3. Put the basil fresh leaves, the sliced lemon and ice and mix.
  4. Your drink is now finished and ready to enjoy!

I might need to make this drink again today as the watermelon we bought is so huge! It has 12 kg! Can you believe it?  If you lived in Romania you could buy a big watermelon like that too at only 1 Ron/Kg – that’s about 0,15p/kg. Amazing!

Otilla this looks delicious! I’m not much a fan of the watermelon when it’s whole but love watermelon ice creams and lemonades! I might have to pick one up over the weekend and make this. Basil is a great addition

When I lived in Australia a mate of mine used to eat a whole watermelon when he finished his triathlon training. Maybe that is why he became 6 x Australian triathlon champion. 🙂
