4 Big House Moving Mistakes That People Make

Nobody likes moving home, they like being in their new home but they don’t actually like the process of moving. It’s so stressful and there are so many tiny details to sort out in the lead up to the move so you can get the house ready to live in.

But people often make it harder than it needs to be because they make simple mistakes or forget important things. If you’re moving house soon, be sure to avoid these common moving mistakes.

Leaving The Packing Until Last Minute

This is one of the most common mistakes that people make because they underestimate just how long it takes to pack up all of your stuff. There’s more than you think, even if you’re good at decluttering, and you can’t just do it all in a day or two.

If you leave it until the last minute, you’ll have to do everything in one go and it will seem like a massive task. But if you start early, you can do a little bit here and there and the whole job will be a lot more manageable.

Ideally, you should start at least 2 weeks before the day of the move but give yourself longer if you can.

Taking Everything With You

If you’ve got a big family, you already know how hard it is to make space in the home, it might even be one of the reasons that you’re moving in the first place.

You don’t want to immediately fill the new house with junk that you don’t really need, which is why you shouldn’t just pack up everything and take it.

During the packing process, consider each item and think about whether you actually need it. If you don’t, get rid of it, otherwise, you’ll end up taking it to the new house and putting it straight into a drawer where it will never get used.

Trying To Move Everything Yourself

When you’ve just bought a house, you probably don’t have that much money left so you want to try to cut costs wherever possible during the move. But a lot of people think that they can go without the movers and just move everything themselves.

The problem is, you’re going to be making so many trips back and forth and things won’t be packed properly so you’re likely to break things along the way. It’s best to get a professional company like Grange Removals in if you want to make life easier for yourself.

They’ll be able to get everything in one trip and package your fragile items properly so you don’t break anything during the move.

Not Labelling Boxes Properly

Getting everything to the new house is one half of the battle, but you need to unpack it all once you arrive, and that’s a lot harder if you don’t label everything properly.

When you start packing, you need to group everything together by room and then label it properly, so you can easily find everything once you get to the new house. You won’t be able to unpack everything right away so you need to be able to find the essentials.

If you’re making these mistakes when you move house, the whole process will be a lot harder than it needs to be.
