Guest Post: My new style crushes – and how I’m stealing their style this season

While I’ll happily drool over celebrities’ red carpet moments, it’s not very often that I attend a movie premiere with a bunch of A-listers so my inspiration tends to come from looking at stars’ off duty style or even spotting someone walking past on the street who has put an outfit together in a way I might not have thought of. Here are just a few of my fashion crushes at the moment, and the pieces I’ll be buying to steal their style.

Lena Dunham
Country pop star Taylor Swift has recently named Girls star Lena Dunham as one of her style crushes. And I have to say I agree. Lena is someone who always looks comfortable in her own skin and sticks to what suits her rather than rigidly sticking to trends. She wears cute printed tea dresses with brogues for her off duty style and mid-length gowns in bright hues for red carpet events. Vintage stores are crammed with unique and pretty dresses like this bib-front frock by Marc Jabobs. I’ll wear it over the winter with opaques, brogues and a chunky-knit cardigan, switching to a pair of tan sandals and a slouchy bag as the weather warms up.

Jennifer Lawrence for Dior
Jennifer Lawrence is definitely having a moment. And, it’s one that’s well-deserved. Her performance as Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games has given a generation of young girls a strong female role model. And she impressed us and charmed us in equal measure with her best actress Oscar for Living Linings Playbook, and her subsequent tumble picking up her award. And, her new campaign for Dior is fitting. She looks strong, confident and flawless, even though she is wearing very little make-up. But, it’s her jacket that I’ve really fallen in love with. Smoking and tuxedo jackets have been all over the big-name designers’ catwalk shows, giving a fresh take on the classic blazer. As an affordable option I love the stretch jersey Tuxedo by Soft Grey at La Redoute, which I’m going to be teaming with another of next season’s trends – the logo-printed t-shirt.

Miroslava Duma
The former editor of the Russian edition of Harper’s Bazaar has become an internet style star, with fashion fans following her Today I’m Wearing images, posted on Vogue’s website. She evokes serious wardrobe envy wearing a series of covetable, colourful high-end pieces that I’d love to own. I love the way she puts together matchy-matchy looks without looking swamped over over done. This skirt by Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung is just stunning with its bright print and ruffle down the front. It’s an incredibly flattering shape that gives curves even if you have none. I’ll be looking for a highstreet alternative to team with a shirt in matching colours, just like Miroslava would for a striking work look and swap that for a cami top and heels for a dinner date.
While I like to hone my own style, I can’t help but fall for the style of some of the world’s great trendsetters. Looking at those women who wear it well never fails to provide some fashion inspiration.
